Al Oliver today

Al Oliver has been a valued member of the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth for many years. While baseball isn't strictly the mission of our club, everyone in the club wants to use this space to lobby baseball fans to support Al "Scoops" Oliver's 2007 Quest for the HALL OF FAME!

His baseball statistics speak for themselves. The Hall of Fame is full of players who don't have the credentials Al has. But Al is a shy and gentle man. He always has been and this kept him from being promoted by the sports writers the way other players who were self-promoters were. If the sports writers won't do it by themselves, it's high time the fans step up to the plate.

In addition to his baseball prowess, Al is also a gentleman and one of the best ambassadors Major League Baseball could ever have. On a personal note, in the years I have been associated with Al, I have come to consider it an honor and privilege to count him among my personal friends. The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth also considers it an honor to have him as a member.

Fans wishing to voice their opinion in support of Al Oliver (or any other favorite candidate) may do so in two ways:

  1. By sending a single letter to the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee, P.O. Box 590, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or
  2. By Clicking the Baseball Hall of Fame logo below to send an email. Major League Baseball Hall of Fame
